2025 Kensington fiberized Slurry Seal and Overlays
Project Overview
The work to be done generally consists of placing two types of surface treatments on various roads in Kensington area: a type II fiberized slurry seal, or cold plane and overlay with hot mix asphalt (HMA), Including Clark Road in El Sobrante. Work will involve surface preparation, including weed spray, crack sealing, pavement failure repair, edge grinding, removal of existing thermoplastic stripes and pavement markings, removal of existing curb and sidewalk, and placing concrete curb ramps in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act, setting survey monuments, and placement of thermoplastic striping and pavement markings.

Road Closure Updates
9/12/25
- Project Stage: The project has entered the slurry seal stage, which is the second-to-last major phase. The final phase will involve signage and striping.
- Schedule:
- Slurry seal work is scheduled for September 15–19.
- Arlington Avenue is scheduled for slurry seal work during the week of September 22. This will involve 1-way traffic control, similar to what was done the week of August 11.
- Street Closures:
- Slurry seal work requires complete street closures for certain periods before traffic can resume.
- This is different from crack seal work, which typically allows more traffic flexibility.
- School Coordination:
- Work near Kensington Hilltop Elementary School will be limited to ensure continuous access for parents and teachers during drop-off and pick-up times.
