Blue Envelope Program - Kensington

About the Program

The Kensington Police Department is proud to support the Blue Envelope Program, a community-centered initiative designed to enhance communication and promote inclusivity during interactions between law enforcement and individuals with cognitive, developmental, or mental health conditions. This includes individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, dementia, anxiety, or other conditions that may affect communication or behavior during a police encounter.

The program reflects our department’s commitment to compassionate policing, community trust, and awareness of individual needs. By adopting this program, we join other agencies across California and the nation in creating safer, more understanding interactions for all.

How It Works

Participants in the Blue Envelope Program can carry or display a Blue Envelope or Blue Envelope logo during any interaction with law enforcement or public safety personnel. The envelope may contain:

  • Personal identification
  • Emergency contact information
  • Vehicle registration and insurance
  • Medical or behavioral notes that may assist officers in understanding the individual's needs

This program is voluntary, confidential, and does not require registration. It is designed for self-implementation by individuals, caregivers, or families.
